Borodin Vladimir Alexeevich

Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Deputy General Director for Development of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Experimental Factory of Scientific Engineering of the Russian Academy of Sciences".

Brief academic biography. He developed new methods for growing complex products from a liquid-alloy - variational shaping and local dynamic shaping. To implement these growing methods, he created a type of automated growth devices that has no analogues in the world - a "crystallization center", which, during the growth process, allows us to obtain complex hollow products from single crystals, in particular, sapphire with a variable lateral surface shape, directly from the melt according to a given program.

His work on mathematical modeling made it possible to show for the first time that the dynamic flow of a melt in a liquid meniscus near the crystallization front has a significant effect on the balance of forces affecting the crystal pulled out of the melt. This result was experimentally confirmed and used to create new automated equipment for crystal growth with adaptive process control systems. Thanks to adaptive control systems, for the first time, a fully automated (end-to-end automation) installation for group cultivation of sapphire plates, rods and tubes has been created. A unique installation "Profile-R" has been created for growing large sapphire plates with record dimensions of 300 × 500 × 8 mm by the Stepanov method. Plates with a width of 300 mm were obtained. The production of sapphire fairings in the form of hemispheres with a diameter of up to 110 mm for rocket technology has begun using the method of local dynamic shaping at the crystallization center installations.
