Annotation: The national cultural specificities resulting from the life of the ethnic group in certain natural and historical conditions are embodied in the national linguistic consciousness in the form of reproducible and rethought semiotic signs, semantics of which carry a linguocultural component. Phraseologisms, being special linguistic means, serve as a tool for nominating fragments of the surrounding world, reflect and concentrate national cultural and existential meanings in their internal forms. The article describes the semantic features of English multi-valued phraseological units as an important component for learning in English lessons. Practical examples demonstrate the analysis of English idioms, which makes it possible to identify not only their structural and semantic features and features of use in the context, but also highlight the historical and cultural factors that led to their occurrence. It is shown that the study of polysemantic phraseological units contributes to a complementary understanding of language as a system of communication between language and culture. The role of the language scientific seminar in the field of English phraseology as a research method in teaching English to students of technical specialties is revealed.
