Annotation: In this article, the role of information-communicative technologies in the teaching a foreign language in an institute of higher education is considered. The aim of the author is to discover the enormous possibilities of information technologies which contribute to more effective mastering of a foreign language by students. This topic is relevant in the context of the ubiquitous use of information technologies and the urgent need to address to them when studying at a university. In the context of a competence approach to learning, the cognitive capabilities of computers, social networks and the Internet deserve priority attention. The author analyzes various forms, methods and results of using information technologies. The author makes a conclusion about the positive value of the application of information-communicative technologies and the successful formation of professional and personal competences. The main results indicate the increase in students’ motivation to learn a foreign language; overcoming the language barrier; development of speech competence; acquisition of cultural knowledge; development of creative abilities.
