Keywords: the adaptation of students, factors of adaptation, entrance examinations, the criterion, the rating of the applicant

Annotation: Factors affecting the adaptation of first-year students to new living conditions are scrutinized. Particular attention is paid to the educational component of the adaptation process. The necessity of developing an integral criterion characterizing the general educational level of the applicant is substantiated. It allows to predict the level of adaptation of the applicant to studying at the university. The integral rating criterion was obtained by the method of individual expert estimate on the example of Mathematics. The applicability of this criterion for predicting the success of the adaptation of students to the educational process in higher education is confirmed on the basis of analysis of the results obtained by 100 cadets of the Academy of the Federal Penal Service of Russia, during the entrance examinations, as well as in the learning process. Non-parametric correlations were used to find the relationships. This approach can be used to build similar integral criteria for other specialized academic disciplines that involve the passing of specialized Unified State Exams, as well as extra entrance examinations when entering a university.
