Annotation: The purpose of this article is a theoretical analysis of the motivation of the modern student in the context of the achievement goal theory and determining the relationship between the types of motivation and types of achievement of educational goals. The subject of the study is explaining reasons of choosing certain types of achievement of educational goals as well as its influence on psychological welfare of a student and his effectiveness in the field of education. The method of this work is the theoretical analysis of psychological research in the field of goal setting of students. The study highlights the main factors that influence the student’s choice of certain goals to achieve. In the light of the achievement goal theory the main types of motivation are analyzed: focus on achievement of skill, focus on avoiding the demonstration of skill, focus on demonstration of the result, focus on avoiding the demonstration of the result. Conclusions regarding the influence of type of motivation on types of achievement of educational goals are drawn. Topical issues of studying this topic in the future are posed.
