Annotation: Philosophy is a discipline of the regional component in modern higher domestic education. What should be the didactically meaningful selection of educational material for this course for non-philosophical areas of training, where philosophy is studied for one semester? In the Soviet era, Marxism-Leninism was considered the «only true» philosophical doctrine. In Marxist-Leninist philosophy, the «main question of philosophy» was the question of the attitude of thinking to being, which has two sides: what is primary – matter or consciousness and – know whether the world. In the post-Soviet era, it is often said that the «core issue of philosophy» is an ideological stamp that there is no «core issue of philosophy», or that it is hopelessly outdated. The article attempts to understand whether the «basic question of philosophy» is really outdated, to find out what timeless ideas follow from the two main answers to it – materialism and idealism, how they can be relevant today, and also – what role the «second side of the main question of philosophy» can play in modern epistemological and epistemological concepts and worldview, and content of the educational process.
